Our Commitment to Employers Across the U.S.

You may have recently seen the announcement of Experian’s new Employer Services business. While we have a longstanding history of serving multiple industries, we recognize some may wonder what prompted Experian to enter this space. It may even seem like a means to another end. In an effort to dispel any preconceived notions, I’d like to highlight what led us to invest in this business, how we plan to address employers most pressing pain points as employees return to work and what the industry can expect from us. The truth is our clients asked us to enter the employer services market. Employers have been seeking alternatives to legacy services. They’ve been asking to have a company of Experian’s scale and capabilities fill in the gaps, invest in innovation, and provide high-touch customer support. Essentially, our goal is to deliver on their ask and be an indispensable partner to employers across the U.S. Here are three ways we are bringing this vision to life: 1. The industry’s best and most trusted providers are now part Experian. A critical piece of our strategy is to bring together the best the industry has to offer. We have a solid track record when it comes to acquiring companies who disrupt industries with innovative solutions to difficult problems. So, we scoured the market to identify companies that would allow us to provide unmatched human capital management expertise. Through our acquisitions of Emptech, Corporate Cost Control (CCC), and Tax Credit Co. (TCC), I am confident we have assembled the best-of-the-best. Individually, each company has a trusted reputation for providing unmatched service to some of the most recognizable brands. As we come together, we are leveraging our combined capabilities to deliver secure, scalable and transparent services to even more businesses. We can assist employers across industries with streamlining complex and time-consuming Human Resources activities and support their finance team’s tax credits processes, through services including: Electronic I-9 verification management Unemployment claims management Employment and income verification fulfillment Tax credits and incentives management, including Work Opportunity Tax Credits (WOTC) Ultimately, we are helping employers turn workforce management into a competitive advantage by improving candidate and employee experiences, safeguarding employee information and maximizing the benefits of various tax credits programs. By leveraging our experts, our clients can spend more time focusing on their people. 2. Our services are backed by high-touch customer service and powered by industry-leading innovation. While we are rightfully recognized as the largest credit bureau in the country, I’ve personally seen our business grow over the past 20 years into something much more than a credit bureau. We are a global technology company and market leader in business insights and analytics, focused on empowering consumers. We invest heavily in innovation across a wide spectrum of industries, and we are committed to investing long-term in technology and processes to improve outcomes for employers and their employees. In fact, Experian has been recognized as one of the most innovative companies in the world by Forbes for several years – for our work in all of the industries we serve. At the same time, our services are delivered with the highest standards of data privacy, accuracy, security and transparency. Our clients will always know how their data is being used and how it benefits their employees. Our business continues to evolve to deliver world-class services for our clients and consumers. We’re bringing this same innovative mindset and focus to meet the evolving needs of employers. 3. We’re “All In” on Employer Services. While we recognize the employer services space was ripe for innovation long before the pandemic, the ensuing stay-at-home orders, rising unemployment, reemployment and legislation changes created a perfect storm for employers, Human Resources and finance professionals. We’re facing an entirely new set of workforce challenges today. Whether you need unparalleled unemployment claims management, tax credit expertise, verification of income and employment reliability and transparency or work eligibility certification, we’re here to bring the best Experian has to offer to help and we’re going all in. Our promise is that we will listen to our customers to understand their unique needs and invest to provide the capabilities and high-touch service tailored to best serve them. We know employers need a partner they can trust, who is focused on their business and their employee’s experience and who will bring new ideas to the table on managing a complex workforce in this ever-changing environment. We have the teams in place with deep expertise to tackle the toughest challenges. We’re thrilled to be here, and we’re committed for the long-term. Financial Inclusion Depends on Data

The financial services industry is poised to take advantage of the unprecedented availability of accurate, comprehensive, and timely data. Through increased lender adoption, the growing array of insightful data can create meaningful change and provide access to credit for more consumers and businesses than ever before. At Experian, we feel we have a responsibility to consumers seeking credit. Ensuring lenders can obtain the insights needed for responsible lending is key to supporting this. By leveraging the most accurate traditional credit data as well as expanded data sources that improve how risk can be assessed for thin-file or no-file consumers, lenders can form a precise picture of an individual’s financial situation and improve financial access for millions of Americans who have been unfairly excluded from the credit ecosystem. Extend credit responsibly. Some of the most predictive information available today is employment data, including how long a consumer has been at a job and how much they earn. Layering verified income and employment information with credit data can improve financial outcomes for consumers and help lenders say ‘yes’ when they otherwise couldn’t or wouldn’t. To help, Experian has released Experian Verify™ - a suite of solutions that provide lenders with real-time access to verified information about a consumer’s income and employment status. Through Experian Verify, credit card, personal loan, auto and mortgage lenders have near-instant access to millions of active employer records to verify an applicant’s income and employment status for use across the lifecycle, including pre-qualification, originations and account review. The products are powered by Experian’s growing network of exclusive employer records and payroll partner data, which includes data from recent acquisitions of Corporate Cost Control (CCC), Tax Credit Co. (TCC) and EmpTech. We are answering the industry’s call for change in income and employment verification while providing lender’s with deeper insights to increase financial access. Putting consumers in control. This is the latest example of many that illustrate our commitment to improve financial access for consumers. The new products complement Experian Boost – a free tool that empowers consumers to contribute their on-time telecom, utility, streaming services and mobile phone payments directly to their Experian credit report. Incorporating this information has been proven to increase the predictiveness of a consumer’s credit reputation and can complement the data derived from their lending history. Experian Boost provides consumers with the ability to immediately impact their credit scores, while providing lenders with deeper insight into a consumer’s financial situation. With Experian Boost, nearly 70 percent see an uplift in their credit score. Since the product was released in 2019, more than 7 million consumers have connected to Experian Boost with over 50 million cumulative points added to FICO Scores. The financial impact to the industry is significant, with Experian Boost users gaining access to more than $1.7 billion in credit as a result of improved credit scores. Serving credit invisibles. Our commitment to consumers does not end there. Through our investments in expanded data sources and advanced analytics, we are helping lenders identify consumers who are excluded from the traditional credit ecosystem, but who can fulfill their financial obligations and pay responsibly. Experian Lift, our suite of lender credit scores, has the potential to help more than 40 million credit invisible consumers gain access to credit while providing first and second chances to millions more. Experian Lift uses proprietary technology, advanced analytics, and machine learning models to combine exclusive credit data attributes, trended data and expanded Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) regulated data sets. This combination of data and technology is creating new opportunities for consumers who are often overlooked. Looking ahead. Data has the power to unlock financial opportunities for millions of consumers. Collaboration between Experian, lenders and consumers that is informed by data is key to keeping the economy flowing and improving livelihoods of Americans. As we look to the road ahead, we are committed to working side-by-side with lenders, credit scoring companies and consumers to eliminate credit invisibility and improve financial equity and access.

Establishing User Identity and Reducing Fraud in a Digital World

How we shop, how we bank and how we access healthcare — it’s all racing to digital and being mostly consumed at home. It’s the evolution of the “anytime, anywhere, anyone, anything” promise that the Internet made available to us in the 1990s. However, in order to deliver on that promise, we need to be able to reduce the chances of fraud by identifying people no matter where they are or what device they are using. The rise of digital has made being able to identify an individual even more critical. According to a recent Global Insights Report from Experian, there has been a 20 percent increase overall in consumer online transaction activities and 60 percent of consumers have higher expectations of their digital experience than before Covid-19. The challenge companies are currently facing is how to digitally identify individuals while maintaining a positive consumer experience.  They need to rely on new technologies including data, biometrics, identity graphs and AI. When it works right, our experiences are more convenient, safer and it creates time for us to focus on other aspects of our lives. At Experian, we are committed to leading the race to digital identity. We use our more than 40 years of experience with success in matching, managing, and protecting identities and personal data combined with today’s most advanced technologies, including AI and machine learning to confirm the identity of an individual. Specifically, Experian is an identity leader in the following areas that impact our society on a daily basis: Fraud Prevention Being able to spot the good guys from the fraudsters is strictly dependent on establishing identity. At the most basic level, we need to be able to verify an individual as a real person and authenticate that they are who they say are. Businesses also need to ensure that the extra secure measures added in order to prove someone’s identity don’t cause too much friction. Today’s consumers are looking for both a convenient and safe experience. In fact, according to our 2020 Global Identity & Fraud Report, 74 percent of consumers said security was their top priority in their online experience, with convenience following closely behind. Most recently, Experian has focused on allowing businesses to reduce both fraud and friction as the world migrates towards a touchless society. Connecting with Consumers Identity is the foundation of the marketing ecosystem. It enables marketers to deliver relevant messages to customers across their most preferred digital channels. But with consumers jumping from device-to-device throughout the day, hundreds of digital touchpoints are created, and connecting these together to build a digital identity can prove challenging. Add to that, the deprecation of third-party cookies, disparate data sources and walled gardens, digital identity can feel like an uphill battle.  Experian is committed to helping marketers address the digital identity challenge, connecting offline and digital identifiers into one single customer view. This will help marketers gain a clearer view of their customers across the buying journey and seamlessly deliver relevant content across all digital devices. Healthcare More than half of all deaths that are attributed to medical errors are due to identification mistakes. Despite some giant technological advances in recent years in patient management, achieving accurate and complete patient records remains a major challenge for the U.S. healthcare industry. It’s estimated that around 70 percent of patient data held in electronic health records is incomplete or inaccurate, and up to half of all patient records may not be linked correctly. Unreliable patient data presents some huge problems for health systems, from flawed diagnoses and treatment errors to unreliable analytics and billing mistakes. As patient portals become the new “digital front door” to access care services and manage things like scheduling and payments, and telehealth gains traction as a preferred care modality, fraudulent activity in healthcare will accelerate to an all-time high. Experian helps with healthcare’s largest challenges, including duplicate medical records, mistaken patient identities, pharmaceutical abuse and associated rising costs for patients and providers. We are committed to the industry-wide adoption of Universal Patient Identifiers on the part of providers, pharmacies, payers and other stakeholders in order to improve patient safety and improve industry standards. Combating Synthetic Identities Synthetic identity fraud, where criminals combine real and fake information to create fake identities, is the fastest growing financial crime in the United States. A critical step for lenders to protect their portfolios and manage risk is confirming whether a consumer who is applying for credit is real or not. The earlier in the process this is done, the better. Experian’s fraud prevention solutions, such as Sure Profile, help lenders differentiate between real people and potentially risky applicants, so lenders can confidently increase application approvals with less risk. Businesses are faced with more competition than ever before and consumer behavior is shifting at an unprecedent pace. Being able to identify an individual whether online or offline is critical in today’s environment. Businesses that don’t embrace technology in order to keep up with the changing needs of consumers will be left behind in the race to digital identity.

It’s Time to Boost

People’s engagement with financial information and their understanding of how organisations use it to make decisions about the products and services they can access has been growing for many years.    Experian has played a role in this journey. We were the first to allow people to view their credit report at any time and see their Experian Credit Score with the launch of CreditExpert in September 2003. It has allowed people to view their own information through a lender’s eyes, so they can understand how to improve their situation.   We’re excited to announce the next huge leap forward – the launch of Experian Boost in the UK.    Now for the very first time, people can instantly increase their credit score to help them access more financial products and services at better rates.  Experian Boost is a free service which allows people to use a secure Open Banking platform to share their everyday transactions – from council tax to digital entertainment subscriptions, such as Netflix and Spotify. These payments have never been factored into a credit score before, so adding them should broaden access to financial services.  Our analysis shows that more than 50% of people will see their credit score increase from using Experian Boost. But, crucially, the service will not make people’s score go down when they sign up to Boost.   People are also in total control of their data. If they wish, they can withdraw their information with a few clicks, and they are still free to re-join at any time. But by keeping Boost activated on their Experian account they can build a stronger payment history which could help them get their credit card, loan or mortgage they want.  We’re confident this is going to be a significant moment in how people represent their financial profile to organisations. Five million people have signed up for Boost in the US since it launched last year, with three million of those seeing their score increase.  At Experian, we strive to put people in control of their financial data and the launch of Boost is entirely in line with this goal.   Now it’s over to you – give your credit score a Boost.

Experian Unites with Operation HOPE to Improve Financial Health

There are many responsibilities I carry as CEO of Experian North America. All of them critical in terms of client relationships, product offerings, innovation, culture, our people and our purpose. A part of my work that I'm extremely passionate about is how we make a difference to consumers and their financial health. As leading data and technology company – and the world’s largest credit bureau – we have the opportunity to work with organizations and individuals every day to help them achieve their financial goals. And while that is good for business, it is also good for society and consumers. That is why I am pleased to join the HOPE Global Forum and John Hope Bryant to announce our new partnership. Operation HOPE is a national nonprofit with goals that align with our own at Experian: to uplift disenfranchised youth and adults from poverty to thriving in a credit ecosystem. We are committed to helping vulnerable communities with our data, analytics, products and services and working with Operation HOPE will help us further that mission. One way we have already been doing that is through products like Experian Boost, designed to drive financial inclusion and help people get fair and affordable access to credit. I have seen firsthand how these actions can change people’s lives. Let me tell you about an Experian Boost customer named Lawrence. Last spring, in March of 2019, his credit score was 640. He was already enrolled in our credit monitoring services, but was not proactive in trying to improve his credit score. Then, he tried Experian Boost. He was able to show positive payment history for utilities, cable, and his cell phone bills. Instantly, his score jumped 30 points. Following the advice of our credit education resources, he paid down his credit cards, which propelled his score even higher. He now has a credit score of 770. What does this mean for Lawrence and his family? Previously, they owned one car and paid 18% interest on that loan. Now, the family has two cars, and they pay 5% and 8.2% on two car loans. This represents incredible savings the family can now use for other needs, and increased access to financial services that can help them achieve other goals. This is what we mean when we talk about empowering consumers so they can have financial freedom. For some, this means the ability to purchase a car, have a credit card, own a home, or simply just save money. The financial health journey can start at any time and have a lifetime impact. I am really excited about this partnership. Together we have the potential to make a tangible difference in financial inclusion in the United States, combining Operation HOPE’s education and counseling programs with our credit education knowledge, capability and services like Experian Boost.

Live with Bloomberg: Data’s Impact on the Future of Finance

In a world that was already becoming increasingly digital, COVID-19 expedited timelines and turned forecasted projects into immediate needs nearly overnight. I’ve seen this play out in my role at Experian as well as across the financial services industry. Experian was recognized as an innovative company prior to the pandemic and the current environment has only accelerated our ability to innovate. As we surpassed the six month mark adjusting to our new normal, I was invited to join Bloomberg’s Future of Finance: Leveraging Digital Transformation for a Virtual World roundtable discussion with Senior Analyst of Bloomberg Intelligence Julia Chariell and leaders from IBM, Ally Financial, Deutsche Bank and others, to share how we are rising to meet the needs of consumers and lenders during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can find a recap of our conversation here and view the full  video discussion here. We know each American is facing unique COVID-19-related circumstances, so there is not a one-size-fits-all solution. This notion has carried us as we are rising to meet the needs of our clients and consumers during the pandemic. We must allow individuals who can still meet their financial obligations to have access to credit and ensure lenders can identify them. Maintaining and improving financial access for these consumers will play an important role in our road to economic recovery. To continue to lend responsibly, the financial services industry must carefully examine all aspects of consumer financial capability in near real-time – consumer control and consumer-permissioned data play a key role in achieving this. By leveraging accurate data, I believe we have a chance to lessen the impact of the current U.S. economic crisis, extend credit responsibly, and support the hardest-hit consumers as we adjust to a new world post COVID-19.

How Experian Health is Using Data and Technology to Address COVID-19

It’s been an interesting - and inspiring - six months. My short time as part of the Experian family (following the acquisition of MyHealthDirect last year) has exposed me to the extensive capabilities and innovative mindsets this company offers, and that has clearly been on display during the pandemic. It’s been amazing to see what Experian has accomplished in such a short time to turn around tools and resources that can help healthcare organizations better operate in the “new normal.” With our expertise in providing front and back-end technology and data sets that are vital for operating patient engagement, revenue cycle, care and identity management solutions, we felt we were well-suited to address some of the new systematic needs healthcare organizations would face in light of the pandemic. Experian’s mantra is to apply “data for good” and we pressed the gas pedal to leverage what products and data we had that could address COVID-related operational issues. Additionally, we looked to innovate in ways that addressed the needs of our clients. Our efforts produced new, free resources such as the following: Experian COVID-19 Outlook and Response Evaluator (CORE) – this “heat map” is intended to guide healthcare organizations and government agencies as they plan for coronavirus recovery. The map leverages de-identified data such as pre-existing conditions and social determinants of health to form a comprehensive picture that predicts possible pandemic impact on communities. Staffing, supplies, community outreach and facilities planning all benefit from any kind of “advance warning.” Payer Alerts Portal - a free comprehensive list of payer modifications including COVID-19 and telehealth payer policy alerts for United States hospitals, medical groups, pharmacies and specialty healthcare service organizations pulled from reviews of over 52,000 Web pages operated by more than 475 payers. These alerts deliver a comprehensive overview of the latest policy and procedure changes, as well as a link to the source of the payer policy, so providers can quickly make required adjustments, save time and streamline operations. In addition, Experian has helped clients quickly secure remote patient access to portals and scheduling as the pandemic necessitated a quick pivot to “contactless” healthcare. We also worked with our clients to enable their work-at-home transitions, maintaining access and functionality for collections and reimbursement – both for pandemic-related services and as they slowly brought elective procedures back online. And, our revenue cycle management products have served as a critical part of many clients’ focus on recovering revenue lost to the national shutdown. In times of crisis, heroes are more visible. These incredible challenges can bring out the best in people. Working with our healthcare clients every day has left us in awe of those who work tirelessly to take care of COVID-19 patients (and ALL that comes with that role) despite many obstacles. They inspire us and we are forever grateful. To access these resources, visit our COVID-19 Resource Center at https://www.experian.com/healthcare/client-services/covid-19/resource-center.

IDC Financial Insights: Experian’s Sure Profile™ is a Game Changer for How Banks Attack Synthetic Identity Fraud

In May 2020, Experian launched Sure Profile and became the first company with an offering to fight synthetic identity fraud that’s integrated into the credit profile with market-leading assurance. In fact, we are so confident in our solution that we’ll share in loan losses on assured profiles if we get it wrong, a first for the industry. Recently, International Data Corporation (IDC) highlighted Sure Profile in the report, IDC, Synthetic Identity Fraud Update: Effects of COVID-19 and a Potential Cure from Experian (doc #US46690220, July 2020) stating “IDC Financial Insights believes that Experian's Sure Profile has the potential to have market disrupting effects in the battle against SIF (synthetic identity fraud).” According to McKinsey, synthetic identity fraud is the fastest growing financial crime in the United States, accounting for 10% to 15% of lender losses each year. Synthetic identity fraud occurs when fraudsters combine real and fake information to create “Frankenstein IDs” which are then used to obtain credit or to add these identities as authorized users to existing credit accounts. Then, financial institutions report the identities to credit reporting agencies. A new record with the false information is created and subsequently, the synthetic identity can be used to generate other fake accounts. It is a significant problem that Juniper Research expects will lead to $48 billion in annual online payment fraud losses by 2023. IDC recommends that financial institutions consider Sure Profile when researching how to fight synthetic identity fraud. For institutions that use an analytical platform to detect synthetic identities, IDC suggests examining Sure Profile to see how it can supplement their models, or even replace them. "Synthetic identity fraud is a massive problem for banks, and I believe that the effects of COVID-19 will exacerbate the problem. However, at the same time, Experian launched a new offering that I believe will be a game changer for how banks attack the synthetic identity problem." — Steven D'Alfonso, research director, IDC Financial Insights Sure Profile validates identities, detects profiles that have an increased risk for synthetic identity fraud and helps cover resulting losses for assured profiles. Leveraging the capabilities of the Experian Ascend Identity Platform™, it uses data to drive advanced analytics, including newly developed machine learning models that predict the likelihood of synthetic identity behavior. Sure Profile provides lenders a simple approach to define and detect synthetic identities early in the originations process. To learn more, check out Experian's Sure Profile.
